Like a kick drum, snare (a clap or finger snap can be used in place or side by side with this), high-hat and various other instruments. How complex or simple you want it to be is entirely up to you. once you have a loop ( a single piece that covers usually two to four bars) you can plug it in with your melody. Next up in your rap beat is the bass line. Now as we all know, the bass line is the backbone to any song. It is the simple melody (or a kick drum in many cases) that we all like to hear pounding out a set of 12’s in the trunk.

Yall know what i’m talkin about. The order of the steps that you take to build your beat is up to you but
I like to hold off on the bass because I want to make it fit just right with the beat. Ask any one and the will tell you the bass line is usually the most important thing to focus on. Usually I like to make it similar in pitch and tone to the melody but at the same time, enhance and punctuate my drum track. This can be a very difficult process. Once you have that right pound and mixture with your track is when you know it’s done. Now on to filler. A lot of artists out there put different noises and sound effects into there tracks to enhance the sound.

For instance, would you think a shotgun or an explosion is a musical instrument? Alone no… but when combined with hard hitting rap beats and some over the top lyrics, it can be that one thing thats gets your song on the radio! Now this is just an example but you got to broaden your horizons to make something unique. When you plug different effects to portray a certain emotion or message, it can really boost a verse. Next step is to start mixing down the song. This is a process were you stretch all your created loops to create your song. Now most songs have a certain structure. You have an intro, the first hook, the first verse, hook, verse, (repeat this as needed), outro. Now an intro is usually used to build up the intensity or introduce the listener to your track. Then I like to go into the hook.

Make rap beats

Now the first step I always take in this process is to write down the lyrics or have the artist that I am working with do so. Now it is perfectly O.K. to skip this protion if you are only intrested in making beats. Then my next step is to create a melody or the main musical structure of the instrumental that I am working on. This often sets the feel and flow of the song. It just tends to make the process that much easier.

Now once you have a good melody layed down it is time to work on the drum portion. Now it is really important that you know what the tempo or speed of the song is in order to make it sound right. If you have a fast paced melody and a slow drum track, 99% of the time it won’t sound right. First step to take is to load the samples that you are going to use (this applies to the melody too).

Often you can just right click on the preset instrument and load the paticular sample that you would like to use. You can also find sample packs on various web sites if you want to obtain more. Once your chosen instrument is in place, you can start consructing your drum track. I often start out setting up my drum track with the basic instruments.

O.G. LeeN: I would change it back to the golden age……… I wish I was born earlier so I could blow…. period

O.G. LeeN: yes I do!……. I think young white kids will define who sells……… N its bullshit str8 up n down. young white kids n’ urban females determine who blow, urban white kids can only understand the surface…… n urban females just wanna dance. nobody cares about lyrics no more n dats y u hear all dis bullshit….not to mention the #1 factor …. For those of us who aren’t as lucky, there are other ways to get rap beats. For one, anyone who is looking to download rap beats can find them all over the internet. It’s the premium ones that are damn near impossible to find.

Using a unique beat is essential. Anything that can be easily picked up and used by anyone isn’t going to give you a professional sound. Sure, if you’re just messing around or looking for something good for your myspace page, there’s nothing wrong with using a mainstream rap beat.

Why produce rap music?

Rap music producers are the ones making the big money out there. Dr.Dre, Sky Storch, Timbaland, hell even Kanye made his name producing rap music.

Even if you’re an aspiring artist, producing your own rap music means you’ll have a better chance of getting noticed. Everyone has freestyles and tracks over mainstream beats, but only you will have a song over your beat.

Inc: The swagger. The way dude’s would express how they felt or what they believed in through the clothing, their lyrics, their walk, all of it.. And it’s steady changing, so it never gets old..

HipHopAve: So, what’s your favorite thing about hip hop nowadays?

Inc: Shit, Iunno.. Hip-Hop’s gone to shit nowadays. I guess If I had to choose, I like where the clothing is going to, with Dipset & Lil Wayne for example.. All the skater-type shirts & tighter fitting pants.. Looks better than wearing a night-gown to school down to your knees, lol..

HipHopAve: What would you change about hip hop?

Inc : First and foremost, kill Soulja Boy, and every other good-for-nothing rapper than gets a deal because of a dance.. After that, I’d find where Tupac & Biggie are hiding and do a track with them, then retire..

HipHopAve: How do you feel about these new “radio artists“, such as Solja boy, plies, T-pain.

Inc: ^See above lmao^.. Soulja Boy can lick my taint, along with Plies.. T-Pain ain’t that bad, I respect how he’s making money.. Like I said, just because you made up a dance doesn’t mean you can rap.. Shit, If that’s the case, what are we doing wasting our time on the Ave? Let’s B-Boy!! lmao..

HipHopAve: How about some of the “Smart rappers” that have started to emerge; Ex: Lupe Fiasco

Inc: I can dig it to a certain extent. I mean, I’m well-educated, so most of their vocab doesn’t go above my head.. I respect them trying to start a new type of movement in hip-hop, but I’d LOVE to hear a happy-medium of the street-type rap and the more complex artists.. That’d get my pee-pee moving ..

HipHopAve: So what have YOU been up to lately?

Inc: Ehh, just got married, yippe-fucking-doo.. Got a kid on the way as well, hooray for that! Lost my basketball scholarship though, smh @ that.. Word to the wise, If any of ya’ll do any type of sports in the NCAA, don’t take free gifts!! It’ll all screw you in the end lol.. Other than that, life’s gravy baby!

HipHopAve: Can you elaborate on Terrell prior; & how he “Bargained” his way into Ohio state? (*Top draft pick from high school / Big scandal)

Inc: I think he’s the fucking man! He waited till the very last second to choose Ohio State, pretty much said FUCK YOU to Michigan and anyone else who dreamed of having him.. It’d be funny as hell If he’s a bust though..

HipHopAve: What do you see yourself doing in 5-10 years?

Inc: Dead. We will all be dead.. The world’s ending in 2012, December 21st to be exact.. smh, read a fucking book!

HipHopAve: Who have some of your biggest influences been?

Inc: For one, Eminem, mainly because he broke soo many barriers for us non-colored folk.. And he’s a beast! But I <3333 punch line rappers, and when I really started to get into rap, I listened to TONS of Big L & B.I.G. << my main influences.. nowadays, I stick with Fabulous..

Whether you’re texting, doing a topical, horror core, etc. or doing audio, in the end, you’re STILL RAPPING.. Yeah, doing it over a beat is traditionally the method that will help you in the long run, but who gives a shit? NONE of us will make it big in this shit, believe that.. Sooner people realize that, the less time I’ll spend putting them in their place..

HipHopAve: Any thing else you would like to add?

Inc: Yay! Ok, first and foremost, I love being an asshole.. It gives me great pleasure to ruin a kids day by simply posting a couple smart remarks on a rap forum.. As long as there are fat pieces of shit who think their the nicest thing on the net, yet, get MURDERED on their own track, I’ll continue doing just that! I also hate Dominicans who dick ride obese faggots just because they idolize them, right Havic? Besides that, Duty is really gay, E-Nyce has a stupid lisp AND Lethal needs to do some sit-ups ..FUCK YOUR LIFEEEEE!

Hip Hop Ave Interview - Havic

He recently posted news on his blog about how he’s helping aging research and helping to stop the aging process. We need to put the religious fanaticism in this country aside and start working on the real problems. My highest regards to Scott for doing this.

Imagine a world where getting older doesn’t mean getting weaker or more sickly. I have only done limited work with telomeres (thought to be the secret behind aging) but what I have done has been fascinating.
