Now the first step I always take in this process is to write down the lyrics or have the artist that I am working with do so. Now it is perfectly O.K. to skip this portion if you are only interested in making beats. Then my next step is to create a melody or the main musical structure of the instrumental that I am working on. This often sets the feel and flow of the song. It just tends to make the process that much easier, especially if you want hip hop beats for sale. Now once you have a good melody layed down it is time to work on the drum portion. Now it is really important that you know what the tempo or speed of the song is in order to make it sound right. If you have a fast paced melody and a slow drum track, 99% of the time it won't sound right. First step to take is to load the samples that you are going to use (this applies to the melody too).
