Boyz N Da Hood, the new southern talent signed to Bad Boys,
releases their debut album, Boyz N Da Hood. This group of four includes
: Young Jeezy, Duke, Big Gee, and the promising Jody Breeze. These Boyz
are portrayed as the new N.W.A, although they lose their message
somewhere amongst the forced multis (which often sacrifice any relevance), mediocre production, repetitive lyrics, and extremely
simple wordplay. The only thing that really stands out in this whole
album is Jody Breeze, who seems able to stay on focus and deliver clear
multi's.
The most disappointing part of this album must be dictionary rhyming
from artists who claim to be straight out the hood. There are though,
several silver linings inside this album. The song "Happy Jamz" asks why
we celebrate and party with all the hardships around us, and is
worth a listen. The song "Gangstas", is a little over average, even
though it plays an overplayed sample from the late Eazy E, and has about
6 different rappers on it. Every once in a while, Boyz n Da
Hood will throw you an interesting and decent line, then cover it up
with 3 lines about their shoes, gats, and women.
This album lands right into the stereotype of mainstream rap today. With
a street image and plenty of "thug" lyrics, Boyz N Da Hood is sure to
find a way off shelves with MTV fans and southern enthusiasts. A lower
than average album brought up by Jody Breeze.
